How to Stay Productive While Working from Home

Posted on April 20, 2020

It seems like the days repeat themselves. You wake up, make a cup of hot coffee and instead of heading upstairs to get ready for work, you walk into your home office or family room, pull out your laptop and start working. This is our reality.

Due to the recent pandemic, businesses are taking the necessary precautions to make sure their employees stay safe and healthy. As a result, the majority of our country’s office workers are working from home. Some may argue that working from home is making it more difficult to complete work. So how can you stay productive while working from home?

Here are some tips:

  • Maintain a routine.
  • At the end of the workday, put away your laptop of any electronic devices you use during the day for work. It is important that you separate your workday from the rest of your day in order to recharge.
  • Separate yourself from distractions as much as you can.
  • Continue to communicate with your colleagues. Just because you're not in the office doesn't mean you can't stay in touch with your friends at work.
  • Allow yourself to take breaks throughout the day in order to stay productive. It is important to let yourself decompress and give yourself time to breath.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Working from home can be a dauting task if you have to learn new skills. Ask your support team or your fellow colleagues if you ever run into an issue.
  • Dress for success. Doing your hair or getting dressed as if you're going into work may help to achieve the headspace you need to be more productive.
It is easy to get distracted and lose motivation when your working in the comfort of your home. The constant distractions and interruptions can easily become overwhelming. It is important that throughout this pandemic we find ways to stay motivated and productive. Don't forget that you are not alone. We are all in this together.
